I have a problem on one website that is causing me problems.
It is a site where you have to be registered (for free) and then login.

I have contacted the webmaster on a few occasions with no reply.
The problem:
After logging in I am taken to a web page but the javascript menu on the left of the page has disappeared.

I then started to go to the pages I wanted using the complete URL such as www.chartfreaks.com/sub3.asp?lijst=2
This last week when I try to use this full URL it just takes me back to the login page.
I have attached a screenshot of the main page. It loooks like there is a menu but they are not hyperlinks, they are just text.

I have contacted some other people who say that everything works fine for them but some others have the same problem I have.

I am using I.E.6 and Windows XP Home edition.
I have scanned for viruses and Adaware in case something has happened with a virus or spyware. I also have JavaScript and cookies turned on.

Any idea what could be the problem and what I can do about it?

If you just use the main URL of this site (www.chartfreaks.com) it just gives me an update page.
I have to use the URL www.chartfreaks.com/login.asp (http://www.chartfreaks.com/login.asp).

All help will be much appreciated.

This sounds like it could be a Java Conflict...

Check to make sure you do not have both Sun Java and MS Java installed simultaneously. I often run into this with various web-based learning programs that I troubleshoot at work.

Also - often times we find that 3rd party toolbars in IE or other programs sometimes conflict with the java.

If none of those work - I'd try reinstalling MS VM.

Thanks.

Could you please tell me where to check if Sun Java and MS Java are installed and also what is MS VM?

Open Internet Explorer - select TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS.

Select the ADVANCED tab and look through the headings... there should be one that is Microsoft Virtual Machine or Microsoft VM or something - if Sun Java is installed you'll also see a heading called Java(Sun) or something close to that.

If you don't have MS VM installed - do a search on Microsoft.com or do a Windows Update and get it installed.

Thanks Rich

I've had a look in Internet Options advanced and found the following:

Microsoft VM

Java console enabled (Unchecked)
Java logging enabled (Unchecked)
JIT compiler for virtual machine (requires restart) (Checked)

Do I have to Check or Uncheck anything here please?

Cannot find anything else about Java or any mention of Java (sun) on this advanced list.

I have attached another screen shot of this advanced list where is shows the Microsoft VM

If I have to re-install Java Sun could you please tell me where to get it and how to install it please.

You have the correct settings... Have you downloaded the latest updates to IE?

I'm able to get in straight away with no issues... I have WinXP Pro -
IE Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633...

Do you have any 3rd party toolbars like Google Search or Starware, Comet, Altavista, MySearch etc etc??

You can find out by selecting (in Internet Explorer) VIEW - TOOLBARS..

The standard things are "Standard Buttons(Checked)", "Address Bar(Checked)", "Links(Checked or Unchecked - your preferance)"

If there are additional things (Adobe PDF is ok as well) then you need to see if you have any searchbars or any crap like that installed.

No. I don't have any 3rd party toolbars.

I have Adobe Acrobat Reader but no toolbars on that either.

I am using Windows XP Home with
I.E. 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633IS

How do you mean about the correct settings and how do I check them? Where do I find latest IE6 updates.

Thanks

You have the correct MS JVM settings..

Updates can always be found at www.windowsupdate.com

I have visited the MS Updates site and now have all the IE 6 updates the updates available.

This hasn't helped at all. Could you tell me where I can go from here?

This is the only website I have had problems with.
Thanks in advance.

IE Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633...

It looks as if you have SP2...
If so, this problem may be related to this and could be a firewall permissions problem....

Thanks. You are correct about the IE version. It is the same number as you have posted.

What do you mean by the firewall permissions and how do I correct this please?

I have turned my main firewall (Zone Alarm) off but it didn't make any difference.

I don't know, I am only guessing but SP2 only started rolling out Monday and evidently you are one of the first to get it. From what I have read there is a popup blocker which is on by default as well as Windows has improved their Internet Connection Firewall and turned this on by default also....

You must be getting all types of new alerts firing asking you to accept or deny many of these new changes. Are you reading these alerts? Any of these new changes can be adversly affecting the functionality of that page...

Anyways, as I said, I am only guessing but since the site worked for you before and you are only now having trouble with it and SP2 was recently released it's not hard to assume that SP2 has changed the permissions of something which was previously allowed...
