http://www.nlwclan.tk The site is not ready yet, but i wanna hear some comments about the layout etc. coz i still need to change some things. Suggestions are welcome too :)

This is a clan site => graphics are important

It's a horrible aweful design and the page doesn't validate (http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A//www.nlwclan.tk/).

running Win2K, viewing in Firefox0.8 - I would look with IE6 as well but I simply refuse to open a geocities site with IE.

frames... sigh. (but let's forget about that for now... actually don't forget about it, look seriously into redesigning without frames)


red words on top "netherlands warriors" are really tiny - almost impossible to read and I'm viewing at 800x600.

broken image on the news frame.

It might be better if the background image on the top frame were the grass rather than solid black (and/or the background image on the other frames solid black)

Frames reduce the chance of search engines ranking your pages; proper, if at all.
Frames confuse visitors coming from anything other then the home page; special provisions need to be taken to prevent frames being opened outside the frameset.
Your header frame wastes about half the screen height (on 800x600), considerably reducing usable real estate.
Maintaining several frames and a separate frameset document makes for more maintenance effort, and the gains is this case are non-existent.

I'd really like to see some good reasons why you do want to use frames.

the only reason i used frames was to create an easy navigation and to create that navigation easily :)

The red letters are even tinier at 1024x768. They are almost not readable. Bear in mind that some of your viewers might have resolutions of 1600x1200. It doesn't really matter what resolutions you work in. You have to plan for the resolutions that your visitors have.

The same image is still broken. It is the square image that is just below the word "news".

There are also 3 broken images on the screenshots page. I'm viewing in Firefox0.8 and NS7.1. Chances are that these images are broken in Opera as well.

Check each frame as well as the main frame page.

(I strongly suggest that you redesign the page without frames. Frankly, I find that frames make navigation more difficult rather than less so.)

You mean, you only have to create and maintain one page containing the navigation.
Although this does save some work, for the limited number of pages / menu choices your site currently features I'd call that a weak argument in the light of the mentioned drawbacks of frames.
Moreover, using only one set of links for all the pages takes away the possibility to give the user (visual) clues as to which link is currently active, limiting the (visual) design options.

Nonetheless, using server side includes (SSI) or some other sort of server side scripting would be a better alternative for reusing some page elements if the need be.

i really don't get why the image is broken on your browser. everyone who viewed this page saw it, but i think they all used internet explorer

have you tried the news page, members and screenshots page? coz if none of the images work on your computer, then xml is not supported
edit: i used data islands to embed the xml data (only available in internet explorer -> i'll let them load with javascript using xmldom)

That's why i've put the title of every page on that page, but i'll probably give an extra visual clue as you said :)

I'm running Win2K. I looked in Netscape7.1, Opera7 and Firefox0.8. (No, I haven't opened up IE to look at your site.) These aren't exactly uncommonly used browsers. None of these showed the images on the News or Screenshots page. You may have to bite the bullet and correct your coding - unless you don't care about anyone who looks at your site without IE.
