is it possible to automatically change the user's browser window when they enter the main site? say i want my website to be 800x600 and the person coming in is smaller or larger, is it possible to make the site universally the same size for everyone?

Yes it's possible using the javascript resizeTo function but it's a good way to drive off traffic as most people don't like sites that arbitrarily grab their browser and resize the window.
It's better to spend some time making sure your site is usable (if not perfect) at various browser resolutions. If your content is truly fixed in size, just set it up so it centers in the browser window and leaves open space on either side. The vast majority of high resolution users would much prefer seeing that to having their window suddenly shrink.

Roy's way is best. I hate sites that change my browser sizes.

I am sick and tired of pages resizing themselves (maximizing). Is there a way to prevent this?

Lets see if I beat jkd to this one, :D :D ...
Use Mozilla browser. It allows you to selectively disable the following:
Open unrequested windows
Move or resize existing windows
Raise or lower windows
Hide the status bar
Change status bar text
Change images
Change or Create Cookies

You mean unchecking JIT compiler for virtual machine under Tools>>Internet Options? I'm willing to try but I have a feeling that having Java enabled outweighs escaping auto maximizing windows. I'm no programmer but isn't java a part of life now? What about prompting to run java on a per page basis?

So java can't perform this but the user still can? Click and drag still works but java won't do it?

Well, um, I use Mozilla and have that box unchecked. As with many things Moz it doesn't seem to work as I often find sites un-maximising the browser window.

Mozilla kicks! Now the clincher.......can I install Yahoo! Companion on Moz?
Yahoo! requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher; or Netscape Navigator 4.x
Mozilla is Netscape based (obviously). Can I make it work? (The Companion home page displays "Your current browser does not support Yahoo! Companion" when I go there.)
