I use IE6 as my browser. But when i goto certain sites it lists what browser i'm on and it says Monzilla/(something about IE6/then my ISP) so is this Monzilla? Or what? I have heard that you can't change the scroll bar colors on monzilla, if that is true then why are mine changed at just about every site....

Just wondering why it says what it says and what browser i REALLY have.

Thanks

We had this question a long time ago. I think this is the right answer. IE is a mozilla based browser, but Microsoft changed it completely and to stop them breaking the law or something, they had to keep Mozilla in the browser type.

I think that was the answer when it was last asked.

Err, Nightfire?

Dunno where you got that from..... I certainly don't remember that posted anywhere nor reading it on other sites...

IE has its own rendering engine (it unfortunately does not use the superior open source Gecko engine produced by the Mozilla organization, but that's its own story).

The reason (that I remember, could be just as wrong as Nightfire) Mozilla/ is in its user agent is because back when IE was first released, it was simply slaughtered by Netscape users, and I guess I lot of sites checked for Netscape by looking for "Mozilla/" in its user agent. IE then changed their user agent to this format because they believed IE was compatible and didn't want to be locked out of certain browser checks, or something like that.
Essentially an early user-agent spoof that stuck.

Mozilla itself is an open source project that made and uses the Gecko rendering engine for a browser, mail client, IRC client, etc.

You are correct kiddo. I remember reading about that many years ago.
