Hi

I'm looking for a method for a band (whose site I am currently designing) to update on a daily basis, a list of venues at which they will be playing.

None of the band members have any Web Authoring programs (nor would they know how to use they!), but they do have access to the Net. I was hoping that they could somehow log onto their site and update / edit the site through IE. I dont know if that is possible, but it would be extremely usefull.

I am designing another site for a weighlifting club also, and would like them to use a similar facility to update their venues.

All help & advice to stephencordner@onet.co.uk appreciated.

Stephen

Stephen, I've closed every instance of this thread exept this one. Please DO NOT cross-post. Cross-posting causes wasted time, confusion, and frustration among those who may assist you. Please have a look at the Rules (http://www.codingforums.com/rules.htm) before posting any further.

Kevin

This is exactly the sort of program that I'm looking for, except that ...........

its not freeware :(

I know both clients will be reluctant to pay for them and the cost of the license is more than I'm even getting from both of them put together!

If you know of any freeware available, then I'm all ears.

Many thanks for your advice

Stephen

Perhaps I have not understood the problem correctly, but surely this is simply a matter of editing the HTML, which hardly needs a doctorate to accomplish.

Hi Guys

I've been on holiday in Dublin over the weekend and am just getting back & picking up emails, messages, etc now, so please excuse what may look like a lack of interest.

Thanks to all who have had a go at sorting out my problem - to go through them in turn (I'll leave Nightfire to last as I think he may have the solution)

KevinG - thanks again for these valuable links, but on checking them, I can see they are all programs which need to be purchased and range from $39-$127. These sites are either for a friend (the band) or my teenage son's Powerlifting club - both of which I am not charging for. But thanks for the links :)

Philip M - I probably did not explain the problem correctly. I'm designing these sites as a 'once-off'. When I have designed and uploaded them, I want the band and the club to be able to look after the content themselves totally.

Eg, as the band announces different venues, I want them to be able to log on to the net from a PC anywhere, type in their password and edit that part of the site which is, well.......editable.

They can then keep the site up to date without depending on me every few days.

Cicada - you are quite correct in your explanation:thumbsup:

Anyway, yesterday in Dublin, I was browsing through the Net mags and 'internet magazine' issue Sept / Oct (www.internet-magazine.com) had on its cover disc PHP-Nuke 'build a database-driven iste in half an hour with thisgreat free software'. They even recommend a site (www.tripod.co.uk) that supports the PHP scripting!

So well thought-out Nightfire - this may be the solution that I have been looking for (trouble is I know nothing about server side scripting, but there appears to be a lot of very kind people in this forum who might be able to advise if I get stuck).

Thanks to all for your help.

If anyone would like to have a go at this program as well, that would be great as many heads are greater than one-especially mine!

(I think the download is free and is about 6Mb)
