It would need to be a server side script, however, there are many remotely hosted guestbooks around, just do a little googling.

what is a server side script?? i suck at this kind of stuff!!! i'm not a computer wiz!!!! and i've looked for free guestbooks a none of them are ad free and i can't make it the way i want it to look! :(
Unfortunately you'll need at least some sort of basic knowledge of how to install a server side script (ie: Perl or PHP) to have a guest book working. Having said that, here are some guestbook scripts: http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Guestbooks/

um... ok  thank you so so much!!... but.... is there anyting none CGI script??? i don't have a CGI-bin on my web hosting!! i'm using yahoo geocities (free)!!! because it says:
"Upload the bnbbook.cgi to your server's cgi directory. Usually that is cgi-bin. Make sure you upload the file as ASCII if you are going from a PC/MAC to Unix!"
i'm not using Unix!!! and i have windows 98!!!
