Name and bookmark cookie

I'm working on a web-based training project and I need a cookie that will accept a new user's name, remember it, and also return to the last page visited when that user returns. I'm not a javascript programmer, just a cut-n-paster who normally can make a sample script fit my needs. But this one is too tough for me to figure out when I've a million other issues to deal with as well. I've looked everywhere on the web but haven't found anything that does the bookmark function in combination with the name tag.

I'll pay good $$ to anyone who wants to take this on (write the code or otherwise provide it), but I need it soon (like within a week).

Also I think this type of functionality can be achieved more efficiently with the server side scripting.
