Hi. I am a designer and relatively new to the world of SSI and am not unfortunately a code writer.

Yet, I forsee a need to create small databases for selected clients and was thinking of ASP to manage them when my webmaster suggested PHP.

I am not familiar with the strengths of each and which one perhaps is better suited for my type of tasks.

For example, a realtor might ask me to create a database of 50 - 500 listed homes in their area. Their web clients looking for a home would need to sort by 'neighborhood' and 'price' to select a list of 2-10 homes they want to consider. Database - I create a webpage template and provide a photo, a description and a link to the realtor's CGI Feedback eMail for each home. No eCommerce necessary.

Can you provide some seasoned remarks and point me in the right direction?

Your thoughful response is certainly appreciated.

Well as far as deciding which language to use the main factor would be which one your webhost supports. If your host is running a linux box with apache then PHP is a good choice, if they are running Windows2000/XP/NT with IIS then ASP is probably a good idea.

Personally I would take PHP over any other language any day. It's much easier to learn and work with.

Also have you considered just purchasing realty software. I've seen plenty out there:
