Filling in fields of one form from another form

I was wondering if it is possible to allow fields to automatically be filled in on a second form on a different page of the same web site when someone fills in information on the first form. i.e. the user arrives at the second page with some of the fields completed, based on their inputs on the first page.

I've done a few searches for this. Hope you can help, many thanks.

If you are using a server-side language, it is better to do it there than in client-side (javascript)
