Hi, we recently got a new Samsung Syncmaster174v 17" LCD monitor to go along with out new computer. However, when we are in the recommended resolution of 1280x1024, the picture is perfect however it looks like the lines of pixels are jumping. When we change the resolution to 800x600 the pictures is blurry but the lines start jumping.

Does anyone know what could be the problem. It looks to me as if the screen is refreshing, and we are seeing it refresh.

Any help is appreciated! thank you!

What refresh rate is recommended? And what are you running at?

Another thing, in Windows, do you have the monitor specified? Or is it just the default Plug & Play monitor? If you can, you should specify it since then it will know what settings will work on the monitor. Go to the display properties, then the settings tab, then advanced, then click on the monitor tab, then properties, then the driver tab, then hit "Update Driver." If Windows doesn't have the monitor in their list (most likely it doesn't) if the thing came with a CD there should be a .inf file (possibly setup.inf, if there is a driver folder, thats where it will be) that will contain the info you need. You just say "Have Disk" when it wants the driver for the monitor and point it there.

Ok, I previously did install the driver and it did showup, where you told me to then "update driver". I am looking on my monitor sheet that came with it and it says
"Recommended Rate: 75 Hz (if the maximum resolution is applied, set the refresh rate at less than 60 Hz)"

It all seems so simple until I look at what my refresh rate is. It is currently at 60 Hz. The only way to change it is by UNCHECKING "Hide modes that this monitor can't display." It is then followed by "Clearing this check box allows you to select display modesthat this monitor cannot display correctly. This may lead to an unusable display and/or damaged hardware."

Once I unselect the box, I can change the screen refresh rate to 75 Hz. If I do change it, will it damage my hardware as warned?? :o
