Start here: [http://www.gamespp.com/programming/]. I'm sorry to tell you this, but if you have no programming background it will be quite improbable that you will be able to create something like GTA. Not to be of discouragement, it just means you have more work to do. :)

I'm just saying that at the age of 13 it is near impossible that you have the amount of experience to undertake such a task. You'll get there eventually :)

I agree with everyone. To save yourself some frustration I suggest you start with something like Pong or Breakout or Tetris. Start simple (and believe me, even Pong is not that simple when you're just starting), and work your way up one step at a time.

Yup, start simple as shmoove put it. As you start to pick up your skills, you will learn techniques such as page flipping, palette management, sprite animation, etc., and each of those will help you get to your goal that much faster. GTA 2 is not a trivial game if you have had no serious experience in programming games or multimedia software. The alternate route is to use OpenGL or DirectX API's to do all that, but then, you would need advanced tutorials to get there.

The calculations required are degree level maths. workin with a 3d matrix is a bit of a can of worms, I been in programming of one kind or anther for about 4 or five years, and haven't even touched 3d animation. It wont be like usin the old halflife level editor (Worldcraft. Any of u chaps remember it?).
As the rest of the chaps say start simple, work on your level maps, and your basic objects. if u use an object orientated approach it will be easier to update later...and that's where the experience comes in.
...come find me in the java jungle...
