Hey People!

I have a Win2K machine at home, its has been formatted and new installation of Win2K has been installed. After installation was completed, I logged onto the pc and noticed I have an option in the start menu (or when I press Ctrl + Alt + Del) called 'Standby'. Once or twice I have accidently selected this option and the pc goes into hibernation.

I have tried to take it out of standby mode, pressed all the keys on keyboard one at a time, nothing works. If I hit the power button or reset button, it shuts down the machine and I lose any un-saved work.

I am sure that there is a way of disabling the standby option as the Pc I use at work (also Win2K) doesnt have the standby option. I have asked the IT Admin about this but he wasn't sure why the option was on some machines and not others. Any ideas people?

Thanx in advance

Luv
Sarah

The option appears on some computers because those have APM (or something like that, I forget exactly it has to do with advanced power something). Are your keyboard and/or mouse plugged in via USB? If so, that is why they won't bring the system out of stand-by mode.

To change this, go into device manager and bring up the properties of your mouse or keyboard and on one of the tabs there is a checkbox for "allow this device to bring the system out of stand-by"
