this is the biggest pisstake ive ever read
http://www.notcpa.org/about.html

particulary the bit about linux not being able to be run along with other open source and this bit

And there's more. Every program you want to execute has to be certified.
So, you're a developer and want to create your own programs? Of course,
with a certified IDE you're able to write your own source code. But it's not
possible to execute your programs you just developed - unless you're going
to certify them (which costs about $100.000!).

Sounds like the DMCA to the nth degree.

Why is it in the computing industry, and technology in general, that more and more the things you buy you aren't allowed to use.

I don't recall Maytag saying I can only bake chocolate chip cookies in my oven? I don't recall Ford saying I can only use Sony Stereos in my car! I don't recall seeing a "single user license" on my CDs, DVDs, or computer.

Although, I can't see this coming to fruition. The cost (and hassles) users have every time they want to upgrade and use new software almost makes this impossible.

Now, if I were using a computer that was GIVEN to me on the terms that I would only use approved software, I can understand. That would be much like my laptop at work. I'm given the computer to use for business. It's not mine, and there's a formal approval process for modifications to it. That I can understand. At home however, if I want to run some software that may break my computer, so be it. I want my flexibility.

Of course this is all moot, since the objective of this is to have a "secure" platform. Well, since M$s on the board, we know that ain't going to happen! :D

lets just hope if this does come into action all the hackers and crackers can work out ways around it cause although i support a companies rights to protect themselves from piracy i value alot more my right to run whatever i want (obviously within reason) on my computer and seriously dont agree with microsofts atempt at putting small businesses under for there own gain. *****rapidly switches to linux*****
