Is there any editor/front-end for configuring apache? I usually just drop the httpd.conf into notepad and go from there, just another kludge I have gotten used to.

If you're on linux (red hat at least) they've put together a front end editor. Not very good though.

As popular as PHP is I'm pretty surprised that there is not a handful of config editors out there.

Well two reasons come to mind why there would not be any web based editors to access and modify the httpd.conf file for Apache. For one it would be a major security risk having a script accessible via the web that can modify the apache settings on the server. Secondly if you make changes to the configuration file you have to restart Apache anyways so it seems kinda pointless because you would still either need to be remotely logged into the server via a remote terminal or be sitting there in front of the server so that you can restart Apache in which case. And thirdly let's say you did use web based editor, what if you made a typo or configured something wrong...when you restart Apache you might not be able to use that editor again until the problem can be corrected by opening the file via some other text editor.
