Big headache here. :(

I am presently running windoze Me on drive C. On drive D I want to install Red HAt Linux but I need to peerform certain functions firstly, using DOS. I cannot seem to get my PC toi open in DOS and the book says that I can't use the MS DOS Prompt as windows must not be open.

My shutdown dialog only gives me the choices of, shutdown, restart or hibernate so I cant do it there.

Can anyone help. I am not optimistic that I can succeed with the install as I know nothing about DOS. There again, where would we be if we didn't learn things?

Windows ME doesn't have booting directly into DOS by default. The feature is there, but it's carefully hidden. I would suggest you to use a DOS bootdisk instead, as you can find at <http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm>

Thank you Liorean. I have downloaded the file to my desktop. Isn't it OK to burn this to a CD instead of a floppy where my CD-RW is the first drive to boot (just like the Floppy used to be).

The boot order is CD-RW, C:

Can't you install DOS on drive d as a stanalone OS? Just found a site with an ISO so you can boot from CDROM DOS 7.10 (http://newdos.yginfo.net/msdos71/) If I understand correctly this makes a bootable CD. Just skimmed the site, seems to have some pretty good info as well.
