Personal Firewall

Hello Guys,

I wasn't sure where to post the question so I just posted it here.

Is there any good Firewall out there? I have a server that runs WIN 2000 and a desktop that is connected to the server and the Desktop runs on WIN XP.

If the Firewall is free, then it's very good but if I have to pay for it then I may consider (seeing how much it will cost me).

But I am looking for something really good.

I hope you guys will help me find one! :) Thanks in advanced!

P.S. I tried searching but could not find anything under General Web Building forum.

Personally, I like ZoneAlarm for Windows boxes. They have a free and "commercial" version.

I started off with the free version of Zone Alarm, and now am using the paid version. After seeing all the stuff it blocks, I'll never go without a firewall again.

Software firewalls are not bad, but I think that your computer/network should be behind a hardware firewall, most routers will do the trick.

Hello guys, finally I got the zone alarm and installed on my server that runs on Win2000.

I am using a switch to connect my desk top to my server. So I got two machines running,

A: my server that runs on win2k (it has public IP)
B: my desktop that runs on winxp. (it has private IP)

Now if I want to get internet access on my desktop I have to turn on the server since they are all connected thru a switch.

After installing the zone alarm on my server, the server gets internet access and everything works fine, but my desktop doesn’t have internet access anymore. My desktop can talk to the server and vice versa but it just can’t connect to internet anymore.

What am I doing wrong? If you guys like I can put some screen shot of the configuration of zone alarm…

This guy did what you were trying to do, so it should be helpful. Let us know if you run into anymore troubles. (BTW, I'm guessing your server is your gateway..)

this is great.. i think this is exactly what I was looking for... too bad i m at work so can't try it out.. (one more reason why i hate my work.. lol.. )

i think i have the free version so i don't think it's going to work for me.. :(
