I tried it from MS-DOS as well but it was not possible to delete them ( I didnt get any error message but the normal messages when i try to delete it)!!! It looks as if the file is deleted but when i look at it again, its not!!!

Your D: drive isn't marked as read-only somehow is it?

Copy folder in MS-DOS:

xcopy /? -- the Source can be a directory name or list of directory names, it doesn't have to be a file or list of files.

The MFT could have become damaged, that would cause windows to have a real problem reading it. That happened on one of my drives a few months ago, I installed "better"/"newer" bus mastering drivers and it really screwed it up. It caused a series of delayed write failures to the MFT and eventually I just had to re-format the drive to fix it after I removed the problematic drivers.
