Some of my icons seem to have a mind of their own. I have set the default program for opening .html files to Mozilla Firefox and yet I can't get the files to have the firefox icon. On top of that, sometimes my icons will change randomly for no reason that I can find. Any ideas on how to tame these wild images?

I have a similar problem with my icons, they seem to change everyonce in a while to some other icon. This is supposedly caused by the icon cache filling up but clearing it hasn't solved the problem for me. And then on top of that, eventually they'll go back to the correct icon for no reason.

Sorry I don't have a lot more to help you with but at least you know it isn't an isolated incident.

In the TweakUI XP Powertoy, there is a fix icons setting. It will screw up the placement of the icons on your desktop, but it will restore the .ico you have it set to.

By screwup the placement, do you mean rearrange them for me to move back later?

It will arrange them, as if you right clicked, and did a Arange Icon> auto Arange

I will stack them up on the left side ,according to the built in icon grid. But it will fix the look of all the icons on your computer.

That's well worth it though. I can always move the icons back.

I have had many wierd problems with icons. I have found that it helps to simply change the screen resolution, and then change it back again.

I have an issue on one system XP pro at home...

The mouse over text is one icon off.
They all have the right image, and work, but if there are 2 icons
1 IE logo
2 MyDesktop logo

Then the mouse over on 2 says 'Launch Internet Explorer Browser'

And...

Have you ever noticed if you delete the 'links' folder in IE favorites,
the next time you open it... *poof* there it is ... right back where you deleted it.
