View Full Version : javascript slideshow - thumbnail images change when hovering over image map

Hello everyone!

I recently found a relatively nice, simple javascript slideshow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (http://www.uwm.edu/map/vt-west.html) that has a cool little feature of having thumbnail images change as you hover over differing sections of a map. I have tried to mimic this effect on a page I am creating (http://www.tonnhaus.com/temp/harpercollege/main_navigation.htm) as part of a basic virtual tour. However, I cannot get the thumbnail/photo window to even display on the page! Ugh.

If someone would be willing to look at the UW-Milwaukee page and then look at mine.....giving me ideas regarding what I might be doing wrong, I would be grateful. I've studied the page source of both pages, and I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.

There is no coding in the page for the thumbnails to load into ?

I've had a quick look ind put in a tempory image tag that should load your images for you to work with

Mr J.

Thanks for the great help! I took your code and "tweaked" it just a little bit, and I got the "mouse out" function to work properly in the image window you created. However, it's still a "no go" when it comes to the image default and the "mouse in" functions of the page. I hate to be a bother, but would you be willing to give my javascript another look and give me some more ideas of what to do? The page URL once again is http://www.tonnhaus.com/temp/harpercollege/main_navigation.htm

I think the problem is related to either the document.images, document.building.src and/or function m_in(image1) code (my guess is the image1 reference.....but what I can't figure out is how the UW-Milwaukee page - http://www.uwm.edu/map/vt-west.html -worked in the first place with all of the holes in the code!). Anyway, any friendly advice for a relative javascript would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mr. J (All),

I got the first thumbnail preview window to work, but am having problems with the second adjoining window (image2?!) (http://www.tonnhaus.com/temp/harpercollege/main_navigation.htm). The second graphic window is displaying the default, but is not responding to the m_in rollover command.

Any additional ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

The image2 part does appear to be working

Mr. J,

Yes, I got the code working about 45 minutes after my last post, then my internet connection went out for a few hours (so I couldn't post an update in this thread).

The problem had to do with the name I had given to the second image. The code described a "document.description.src" refererence, but I did not know that I had to use "description" as the name in the second <img src> reference. Yep.......I'm a newbie! :o

Anyway, the page is now functioning flawlessly, thanks in good part to the advice I got from you! Thanks again for taking the time out to look at my page. That really helped.
