View Full Version : recycle bin on desktop
no way

Hi,
I am a new user of Win XP. Have already deleted all shortcuts on my destop (at least there is tidiness here, my desk looks like a bomb just exploded).
Only one is resisting and does not wanna be deleted: the recycle bin shortcut. How can I get rid of it? (I could activate the "web contents deksktop" on win2k and hide the icons, but this option does not seem to be available on XP)
Tks in advance
Fred

Go here http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article05-013
• Hide shortcut icons:
right-click (desktop) : Arrange Icons By >> Show Desktop Icons
• Access shortcuts from popup menu:
right-click (taskbar) : Toolbars >> Desktop

I never understood people's obsession with having no shortcuts on their desktop. I thought the whole point was, so you could be more efficient and not have to scroll through a possibly large list of programs in the start menu to find frequently used apps.
I'm trying to flame you or anything, just curious.
If I may: being that html content can reside on the desktop, organization & styling can be brought to a much more detailed level than just a scattering of icons...

I never understood people's obsession with having the same shortcut twice on their screen, making it looking like a mess (Some even put recent used files on there, so they have to search on the desktop before they could find anything). I like the "quick launch" toolbar, don't need to minimize open apps to see it, access is fast and there are no ugly icons on my desktop background image.
As far as the recycle bin is concerned, I've never used this shortcut before. I empty it from the explorer from time to time, that's all.
Before leaving my desk, I always minimize everything (win+m), so nosy people popping around couldn't see anything apart from the desktop pic.
