View Full Version : I have some questions about ISP's
First of all, Im not sure if this is the right forum for these questions...
Okay. I am not very happy with my current ISP, mainly because their customer service sucks, and they are down alot, and their really expensive. The only reason I use them though, is because they are the only broadband ISP in my area.
But, my question is: Is it possible for me to use an ISP from anywhere in the world? EX: would I be able to login to the internet, find a good ISP, and use them, even if they are on the other side of my continent, or in a totally different state then me?
If so, does anyone know of any cheap, reliable ISP's, that will allow me to have servers, and use broadband? (besides AOL, me hates AOL)
<EDIT>
Also, If it doesnt allow static IP adress's, that is fine. I have another way of getting my server out :D

You can have an isp in another country if you want, but don't forget you'd be getting charged international rate for the call over to their servers everytime you go online. Stay with an isp in your country and can't really suggest an ISP as I don't know where you live :p
Well, I cant tell you exactly where I live, but, I live in the Southern part of the United States. :D

Have you contacted your telephne service provider to see if DSL is available to your location? If you live in the city this could very well be an option. If you are like me and live in a rural area DSL is probably not available. However I have cable and the service and down speed rock.

If cable is available I would recommend it. I have Comcast cable and for Basic Cable and Internet both I pay about $60 US mo. Standard dial up is between 10-25 dollars and Cable TV with comparable channels around $30. Almost makes it silly to do the latter. And even more silly to go with DSL if you plan on cable TV anyway. I will note while the quality of the internet service is outstanding, the quality of the customer service is lacking.

<edit>

And neither does earthlink :D

That's probably why your service is so poor, they know they've got you locked in so they're not all that eager to be helpful because you've got no competitive options available. If there was some local competition they'd probably work harder at keeping your business.

What area is this? Sounds like someone could have a business opportunity.. or maybe not, and that's why no one's gotten into that business in that area!!
Crappy deal man.. why don't you move closer to civilization? lol, just joking!
