I'm going to dump the old version of XP Pro that * ahem...cough...cough* fell off the back of a truck. I really would rather not spring for the cost of a copy of xp pro, but was wondering if there is a way to rig xp home to be able to use VS.NET and classic ASP? I am not going to be hosting any web sites--it is just to use for development purposes.
Hmm. Probably will be tears before bedtime, but here you go

My machine is mostly a gaming machine. Isn't it better to use XP for games?

WinXP is not only more stable and better for games than 2000 (better memory management, threading, etc.), it also includes various system performance improvements (bootup time, app loading time) and makes better use of modern hardware for system operations.
I'm not knocking 2000 at all, it's just that WinXP really IS better when you compare like for like.
The only thing I would add is that a few features which are switched on "out of the box" should be switched off - I recommend turning selecting the "Windows Classic" theme to get the lean, mean Win2000 UI that we all know & love, and disable System Restore to improve hard disk performance.
Naturally, all the old 2000 tweaks still work in XP, and there are plenty of new ones, but that's another story! :p

XP = great for gaming. I can personally attest to that. :)
