Okay...
I know the connection would be slow and everything but, will someone guide me to having my home computer being a web server with a free program? I would also like to have some sort of free server side languages going on.What is the cheapist, quickest, and easist way for me to do all this? Also... will my web page be acsessable to everyone on the web, or just people on my network?

OK, get Apache and PHP (both free), this will allow you to view them on a network, to get them on the web you need a static IP (not free).

nope theres even better.

www.aprelium.com much easier than apache
www.php.net best server side language. and it's free.
www.dyndns.com www.no-ip.com offer domains for dynamic IPs

A good step by step How-To can be found at www.cocoontech.com in their How-To section... It will show you how to setup Apache and PHP it i think 18 easy steps. Took me about 15minutes to setup this server and i even ventured out on my own to learn how to install MySql along with it. Its actually pretty simple. You download MySQL and run the exe file. Thats it!

hold up...lemme ask my questions in simplier form...

1. I have No-Ip or a 'static ip' how do I set the abyss web server to it so my page is viewed everywhere?

2. How do I get a domain name (I do assume this cost)?

domain names can be bought from various companies. www.godaddy.com is close to the cheapest i've seen. tried and true www.netsol.com charges the high-cost of $35 a year.

the abyss server should require no configuration for serving pages to the public net. Your network, however, will require some work.

Assuming you have a SOHO (or similar) router/firewall/box-that-does-everything between your cable/dsl and the rest of your network. You will need to open and forward port 80 (standard HTTP port) to your "server." check your manual for this.

You will also need to install a dynamic DNS client, available from your dynamic dns host. this will automatically update the links on your DDNS's computer.
