I want to learn flash, but I really don't know where to start, is there any special programs I need to make it and where can I get a tutorial on how to do it?

I couldn't get the the flash maker off macromedia, it wouldn't let me download. It was weird... Do I have to pay for it?

It's a 30 day free trial. There's another flash program called swish, maybe www.swish.com I dunno if that's still free but it's limited on what it can do

Thanks, I got the trial working. But the starter starts out too complex, I need a tutorial that expects me to know absolutely nothing aobut flash

Try doing the tutorials flash mx gives you under help, they helped me some

Other than that, I would suggest a book.

the tutorials on flashkit are a bit advanced for teh absolute beginer. the built in tutorials is where you'll learn fasteres and best. what exactly do you want to do in flash? webpage? logo? intro? menu?

Have a look through the sites mentioned under Macromedia Flash MX on the sticky thread on the forum:

Well, all the awsome websites use flash. But I mainly want to make games with flash. I really ave no clue how, I don't need in for the web deisign itself. I can use JavaScript and HTML to make better websites for that. I Just need to make games with it. And maybe a little intro between pages like BoxHead's website. I will read the manual though.

games... now thats not something you'll be able to do straight away. you'll have to pickup actionscript(flashs scripting language) and learn that too

PeachPit Press's beginner flash books helped me -- their advanced book teaches you how to make games step by step. I've yet to see an online tutorial that's as good as their publications. Google them for their site, but I highly recommend it.

www.swishzone.com get SWiSHmax.
Trust me you'll be set to go! They sell you a book on their site to learn everything you need. That my suggestion.

Have you been to kirupa.com? I've learned everything flashwise through them. You can coordinate that forum, this one and books like the MX Bible, I use that EXTENSIVELY on several Flash pages I've worked with.

being able to create decent content, I recommend Flash MX 2004 Hands On Training ( http://www.lynda.com/products/books/fl04hot/ ) by Rosanna Yeung. I haven't actually read it, but a class she taught that I was the TA for utilized the previous version of the book and it went from the absolute basics to intermediate/advanced techniques, though NOT heavy on Actionscripting. It also delves into the new CSS capabilities of Flash. I've had her for several classes and I would imagine that her writing style is similar to her teaching style- methodic and easy to follow. You could build a Flash based site after going through this book.
