Yet another "review my site" post

PS, if you can check it out in a moz-based browser. position:fixed doesn't work in IE.

The little blocks on the left which are apparently links...the mouse pointer doesn't change when hovering over them so it is hard to tell that they are links.

The very top line:

"Article: Top Ten Guidelines for Forum Ettiquette»"

seems a little close to the image on the top. Other than that everything looks good.

In msn and iem, it doesn't use fixed positioning (just as good since they have problems with it), and there's a black space between the top area and the link area.

In OmniWeb5 the fixed positioning works, but the same black space is present. (Ow5 has the same rendering engine as saf1.0)

In saf 1.2, it works about equal to Moz.

In op7.5, the post separators are drawn above the linkbar, but otherwise it's just like Moz.


Op7.5 by default spoofs iew. Ow5 and saf can be made spoof iew as. In all the cases of spoofing iew, fixed positioning does not work. Don't rely on User-Agent detection alone. If you necessarily have to work based on HTTP headers, at least use a backup mechanism by checking other headers for clues as of spoofing. I have a little list of HTTP headers sent by the browsers I and Brothercake have at hand at <http://liorean.net/http%20headers.log>, and of those you can see that only the following are ie (and the ones that look almost identical, but with nothing major differing, such as the order of the headers):Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, application/x-shockwave-flash, */*

Also, you should give the projection medium the same styles as the screen medium. Otherwise full screen won't work in op7.5.




And I would second Spookster's notion about the links not changing the cursor at hover and that the first post is a bit close to the page title.

It seems that IE doesn't like using a link tag around a <span> I may adda cursor: attribute to that in the IE css file.

As for the location of the first line, I'll move that a little lower.

Actually, the reason the position:fixed doesn't even show up in IE or opera spoofing as IE, is because I used a php script to determine the user agent. and output the right css file. When I output position:fixed to IE, the background (namely sidecurve.gif) gets moved down.

As for Opera putting the post dividers over the link list, I've been having problems with that from day 1. Any ideas on how it might be fixed? I've even tried using z-index to place the linklist over the post, but it doesn't want to work in Opera.

Also, can you post a SS of the site in IEm or OW? I've never see that problem.

Too busy..
your white links in the right col. distract the eye from the content, grey them out a bit and maybe use white for hover, if you must.
The solid black vs. solid white for the content is hard on the eye. How about a dark charcoal (even #999) and a slightly off white, maybe a bone/cream even.
Also, your lines of text are too long @ 1024x768. Set a max width of say 450px for those of us using browsers that understand it.
But on the upside, I like your first name :D

Here's the screenshot. Also have a look at the edit of my last post, since you had obviously responded to the message before I posted the edit.

I don't know the reason for this behavior in Opera, really. Why don't you visit the Opera forums (http://my.opera.com/forums/) and ask them about it?

On the right, where your links are, I think there should be a space between the Blogs and Links.
