i am pretty new to webpage design . I know only a bit of html coding but now have a need to go farther. I am not sure what language this will have to be scripted in first off,but my objective is to create an online bulletin board that my visitors can post both text and images to via a posting page and have the results come out on a viewing page(.i.e a version of classified ads thing). Also how would i be able to include a way for my vistors to be able to upload .jpg files from their own home pcs?? I know these things can be done as i have seen a working model i just don't have the know how to put it together for myself. Please help
Hi Jim:
Welcome to our forums. Before anything else, please be sure to read our posting guidelines for future reference, such as to use a descriptive subject for your thread: http://www.codingforums.com/postguide.htm
To your question, what you need is a forum script. A free one is http://www.phpbb.com It includes features such as the ability to upload images and other files by members.

Jim,
the functions you require can really only be realized with server side scripting in languages such as ASP, PHP, JSP, etc. The PHPBB package George (WA) mentioned is written in PHP, which is a powerful, open-source scripting language that is gaining support among the web development community fast because of its abilities and fast-growing support from hosting providers.
PHPBB is a full-function forum; if it's a bit too much for your liking and you'd like to dive into learning to program in PHP, I'd like to recommend SitePoint's Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL (http://www.sitepoint.com/books/phpmysql1/); it's a very practical, hands-on introduction into automating sites using PHP & MySQL. I own a copy and loved it.
