About your http://pxem.geoffers.uni.cc/ page, I think you've missed the point about ems... unless you also give information about the font being used, and in which context, you can't do a conversion to pixels...

<div style"font-size: 12px">
<div style"font-size: 90%">

<div style"font-size: 1em">

How big is this text?

Not 16px...

</div>

</div>
</div>

Basically what I've done, still using blue, on blue background, with links as dark blue, purple, lighter blue and now there's no logo.

Worse than that. Different browsers have different defauts... and users can override those defaults in a single click.

It's not meant to go into that, it's just a basic converter as it was recommened to me by MindlessLemming to change from px to em so I made that converter.

The layout of every site is well... bland. Switch it up a bit here and there. I notice you like to center everything. Why not try some different styles like two or three column layouts or a two column w/header and footer design. Things need some more dynamic, speaking in terms of graphics. It may just be me, but the everything centered look is a tad bit ... hmm... how to say it... ugly, with no offense intended. I'm sure you could spice it up. Just give it a try on one of the sites and see how it goes. Expand your skills! Who knows, it may even be a lot of fun! ;) :)

Convertor is really, erm, pointless. As mentioned before, different browsers have different defaults, and so do different OS's, plus then it also depends on the person's DPI settings. You can't do a basic or any type of calculation to be honest with you.

You need some type of design or something. A background behind every line of text is ugly, everything center aligned is ugly, the colours are ugly :(

The page you got linked to in your first post is the best I've seen yet. Try to play around with that in different designs, and then do different styles and designs for your other sites.

I'd like to suggest changing your character set from Cyrillic (ISO-8859-5) to Latin1 (ISO-8859-1); it's rather annoying to repeatedly being asked to download a character set for which is no appearent need.

I think I have uploaded all the changed files to the new character set, changed the design of F1 Unleashed.

The F1 Site is definitely getting on the right track. Next thing I would recommend is to put a little more content on the front page. Where your text 'body' occurs you should add more to say so the whole section spans more then a single line. If you're feeling ambitious you could even divide that section into two columns and have one side stating your introductory content and the other containing something like (possibly) rotating featured pictures of F1 cars, etc. You could put thumbnail links to the larger versions and of course do some nice border work to divide it off from the left side. Keep in mind you'd only want one or two images that you could change now and then.

I particularly like the FAQ page....
I can read threw the whole page in 1.62 seconds...
Is any content going to be introduced in there?
Other than that, I think your pages lack of dynamicality..
When I look at them, I feel like I'm seing a page, not a website.
I say, if your site could be a book, it's not good!
As for colours, I personally don't like them (exept for the games website, shich is nice, but very static...).
If you have trouble with color, maybe something like this (http://www.smartpixel.net/chromoweb/uks/indexgb.html) would help.

The FAQs page will get something shortly. HSTEU will go, as the content and design and the coding can all be improved, so far I'm on 5 pages written down on paper, but I've got to type it up.

Well asside from the blues feber I would suggest you make a point of reading correcture on your pages expecially on the link.

High Speed Trains the the European Union (HSTEU)

shouldn't it be:

High Speed Trains in the European Union (HSTEU)

I think your logo would be better put up in the bar where your name is since your goal is for those two things to be associated with each other.

The website needs a tonne of work... but if they are your first websites, then they aren't too bad.

As everyone else says, the pages are rather bland, and everything being centred is ugly.
You should choose a different font, like Arial, Tahoma, or Verdana (and sans-serif as backup).

Look at how other sites are made - with columns, such as links down one side, title accross the top, and other stuff down the other side, and then finally the main content in the middle column.

You should attempt to add more graphical detail, like bordered div's (or tables if you choose HTML), and perhaps add image graphics or non-repeated background images.

Here is my latest site:

About fonts, look at my CSS

{font-family: arial, veranda}for all the elements which have text, and these are my second websites (g w search (http://gwsearch.freewebpage.org/) being my first).

How would I change
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" summary="">
<tr>
<td class="logo"><img src="logo2.gif" alt="" /></td>
<td>
<h1>Geoffrey Sneddon's Websites</h1>
</td>
</tr>
</table>and
table {width: 100%}
table {border: none}

td.logo {width: 80px}
td.logo {text-align: center} into bordered divs?

Veranda is not a standard Windows font - it's Verdana.
And some systems don't have Arial or Verdana, so you should have:
Arial, Verdana, sans-serif.

'sans-serif' is one of the fonts that W3C recommend that you should include in your fonts list.
However, the code seems to be good overall... a friend of mine has started his own website for the first time, and his code is rather bad!

Umm... Hmmm...

Well, no offense, but try using more images, and use a specific template to, "jazz it up" a bit. Something I like to do, Is get out a ruler, and draw out a template on a sheet of paper. Then I open up photoshop and draw it all to scale (1 inch = 96 px). Maybe use some cool effects, and for the links, use smaller fonts. Maybe put
more info about the websites, or create a javascript onMouseOver bubble effect that creates a small word bubble with a description of the page when you mouseOver the Link. Use a larger variety of colours. If you use Adobe Photoshop, I would suggest finding a good colour in the colour picker, and then copy the hex code. I hope I helped a little bit.

Im not too sure you would want to put a border around the logo, but for the main content, I would put a div around it like this:
[code]
<div id="maincontent" style="background:transparent;border:(however many px) (style:solid/dashed/a few others) (colour)">
ALL OF YOUR CONTENT GOES HERE
</div>
[code]

and in your source, try and use proper indenting :D

I am very much against javascipt MouseOvers as some people will not see them, you may find this post (http://codingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=180118#post180118) Helpful, as for Colour Picker, I have made my own application for that, which does it on the RGB scale and then I use this colour converter (http://www.321webmaster.com/colorconverter.php) to convert it to a hex value.

As for the templates, that is something that is on going, there will be 2 templates - the home page one (http://geoffers.uni.cc) and the about me one (http://aboutme.geoffers.uni.cc) .

How come you dont use a PHP counter if your site says powered by PHP?

Use this code I wrote you if you'd like.

<?php
$getcount = fopen("count.txt", "r");
while (!feof($getcount))
{
$oldcount .= fgets($getcount);
}
fclose($getcount);
$oldcount++;
$storenew = fopen("count.txt", "w");
fputs($storenew, $oldcount);
fclose($storenew);

print $oldcount;
?>

Thanks for the code, I'm now using it :) but is there anyway to add st, nd, rd, th to the end, I know it will be complicated but it would be a great help as it currently doesn't make sense.
