I'm having a problem with this, the .htaccess located in the directory I want to protect calls the login box but when u/name and p/word are inserted it fails.

AuthUserFile /data/web/_r/_o/_b/robotguru.com/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName EnterPassword
AuthType Basic

require user username

And in the .htpasswd file:

username:password

Hmm, that should work...a better method would be to switch out your require with

<Limit GET>
require user username
</Limit>

or if you need multiple types of password challenges replace GET with GET POST PUT.

Did you crypt the password properly?

Is the path to htpasswd a valid server path? Well, obviously it is if you are getting the challenge...

Have you tried only doing a require valid-user instead of trying to limit to a certain user?

Got it working now, went through the different options, ended up with the original method and it worked fine. :confused:
