Custom Player controls only work after stopping and starting video

This is a strange problem that is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have an embedded windows media player (on autostart) that is controlled with custom player buttons(rewind, fast forward, play, stop, pause, full screen, volume up and down). When I first pop open the player the only buttons that work are stop and full screen. Then if I click stop to stop the video, all the buttons work just fine (I can press play to restart the video and everything functions normally). I cant for the life of me figure out the cause or solution to this. Thanks again.

Unfortunately no, the page is only on a testing server right now. Perhaps I could set it up on a public server temporarily if you think it would help. Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I wanted to see how many videos you had on that page. I am working on something similar:

I was wondering if you knew how I could get the links on the menu to play the video in the same window rather than opening up new pages?
