I made my own homepage, which is stored on my computer. But when I set it to my home page in Internet Explorer, it just reverts back to my original home page (which is web-based).

Does anyone know how to set a home page to a local file?

Uh, just open the file in IE, then go to Tools >> Internet Options

On the General Tab in the Home Page section, just click 'Use Current'

Try opening the local html file in Internet Explorer. While on that page, click -> Tools -> Internet options -> General tab -> Under "Home page" click "Use Current" ;).

OR

You could copy the location of the local file you want to set as your home page and paste it into the "Home page" address box. Don't forget to click "Apply" to make sure the change is applied  .

Edit: Didn't see you there when I was replying Beetle :).

Gentlemen... I know how to set the homepage. hehehe. But for some reason, IE keeps reverting back to my previous home page (I'm assuming because this homepage is on my harddrive instead of an http.).

Any ideas?

That's weird. I just discovered I CAN'T change my home page at all... After I hit OK or APPLY and then open options again (or open IE again), my homepage is set to yahoo mail!!!

HELP!! THERE'S A GHOST IN MY MACHINE!!

Anyone know of a lame virus or something that prohibits the change of homepages???

Ok. I figured it out.. This freeware program I have (Free Surfer) was not allowing my homepage to be changed. So I disabled it for a second and then changed it.

Free Surfer is awesome. It's totally free, and I haven't seen any of those massively annoying popup windows since I installed!!

Especially rewarding (you can have your computer alert you audibly when a window is killed) is the sound of multiple beeps when I exit one of those lame sites that pops up a bunch of windows upon exit! NICE!!!!!!!!

That program rocks for freeware. I recommend it to everyone.

Hmm, just for the sake of trying to isolate the cause, try clearing out all your cookies and temp internet files, reboot, and see if you can change your homepage then  .

Edit: Well, while I was typing this, I see you found your solution. Good enough  .
