size attribute of form elements

Does anyone know if the size attribute of input tags is now deprecated? I can't remember!

why not add a style to it? Its sleek its sexy its fully customisable ;)

I would use CSS, but I'm editing JSPs created by non-webbies, ie software developers, who really don't understand the subtleties of web dev.
