using multiple styles on page

I am trying to use more than one style when it coes to active links, however I cannot seem to use more than one active link style. I am using the a:active a:hover etc ok but i want a different link style in another table on the same page. Can you help the confused?

a.aclass:active {

Will be allplied to links with class="aclass"

or

.aclass a:active will be applied to links that inherit form an element with class="aclass"
