Phantom Files?

Hello,

I have a large folder (approx. 6.31 GB) full of files, but mostly music songs. Anyways, I have noticed that some files just randomly seem to disappear. Any idea why?

as in, there one minute, gone the next?

Could be several issues:
A program is deleting them (this could be some heinous application or a virus)
Hard drive is going bad
the sectors containing the FAT table is going (assuming you're running FAT16/32, not NTFS)
if NTFS, some random thing is changing your file permissions.



difficult to troubleshoot. Try running a virus scan first.

a scandisk would be a good choice as well

This may be a bit too obvious, but the direct approach is always inspring. Have you changed your file attributes to hidden?
