Along with many other items I gutted from a old computer that I am getting using to make a computer for my Manufacturing class, I found a new hard drive from Western Digital. I was wondering if anyone knows a site or something online I can do to see how much space is on it? Something so I dont have to hook the thing up, lol.
Its a Western Digital Enhanced IDE Hard Drive.
Maybe there is something I'm missing when I look at it?
Thank you,
-Jason

There's usually a model number such as "WD600BBRTL" written on them. Can you find it and tell us what it is?

Western Digital is one of the only ones where the size is stated in the model number.

Maxtor and IBM also state it, but along with a confusing set of unrelated digits. Anyway, you can use the model number to for looking up what the size for that model is, for any hard drive by any manufacturer.
Your model is 40GB, or 37.25 GiB.

Ah, yes. I found the size as well.... ok, so. What do you thin about the hard drive from the specs [http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=5AUWMs2h&p_lva=&p_faqid=715&p_created=1037285785&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTImcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD13ZDQwMGJiJnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9NCZ wX2NhdF9sdmwxPTgyJnBfc29ydF9ieT1kZmx0JnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=]?
Do you think its a good hard drive or what? Is it worth keeping? lol
Thanks,
-Jason

Well, after Seagate and IBM, Western Digital is the company I've heard the most good about of the harddrive companies. This seems like a good one. The harddrive is among the best that existed, two years back. So, I would say it's a keeper, if you have the need for a meager 40GB. (After all, that's the space of the top-of-the-line iPod too, right?)

I have the same question. I know this topic might be a little old but I also need help.
I have 2 hard drives. Both by Maxtor. One is Model Number: 83201D6 (I think its a 6, it has a scratch going down it so i cant read the last digit too well. It could be an 8)
The other is Model Number:51024H2
I tried searching the model numbers and nothing came up and I have also tried searching the Maxtor site to no a vale as is. SO maybe you guys can help?

Googling "maxtor 51024H2" returns results, apparently it is a 10.2GB hard drive. Maxtor normally writes the capacity of the drive on the label near the serial number or model number.
The other one looks like a 3.2GB drive. (Same search different model number was all that was needed)
