View Full Version : Problems With Leaving Out File-Type Extensions?

I was setting up a page using frames on Angelfire, and I encountered a problem. Angelfire placed adds on all of my frames, not simply one. I dont know how to block the pop-ups, though I'm sure it can be done. I know no one will tell me how to do that though.
I avoided the problem by leaving out the file-type extension of my frames. So the names are now 'frame' instead of 'frame.html'.
Will this solution cause problems for people visiting the page?

You can name your frames whatever you want, but it's best to leave out any chars other than alphanumeric ones and the "_" for DOM access.
The src, however, should ALWAYS be given as the full filename, as some browsers will just think it's a directory and look for the index.* in that directory. If the directory doesn't exist, you get a 404 :(

Your solution still amounts to a way of breaking your TOS - by not using file extensions you hope to fool the ad-bot into not including banners.
THis post should be closed.

Actually brothercake, some free hosts interpret frame pages differently and show popups instead of banners. Therefore the frames page is considered 1 page and you get one ad (at least that's how Tripod does it).
Though you shouldn't really fool it into showing no ads at all... Check their site for info on fixing that, or maybe contact them with your problem :)
Or spend 25 bucks a year for a host of your very own with no ads :D

Alright, I will try that. Thank you.
I know that that is most likely against the TOS, but I never read it.
I just didnt want any visitors to have 3 or 4 pop-ups every time they open the page.

We have never condoned nor provided assistance here for breaking your TOS with your hosting service. The free hosts are free (at least in part) because of those pop-ups, though they are annoying. However, that's life and as SYP}{ER mentioned, you could pay for your hosting and be free of the Ads. Sorry, closing thread.
