you can get swf crackers from various sites, none of which i will give you seeing as it isn't very ethical

Hmm, well let's see. There are several flash generator sites where you can customize banners menus and buttons. Once, you download the one you customized and decide you want to make some changes on it, you can't open it in flash mx 2004. Therefore, I asked because you wouldn't wanna start all over again. Now would you ? Nice try, I'm not trying to download other people's swf files. :p

I am having the same problem. I am trying to do a web gallery and trying to edit the template from adobe, you cannot open the .swf file. 'tis very stupid to not let someone edit the template. I just want to add a home link and I cannot edit the template (which is not very productive). If there are any ways to get passed this restriction, please don't be shy and tell.

There are programs (SoThink SWF Decompiler, for example), but you usually have to pay for them. Also, are you sure they don't provide an FLA file, or instructions on how to reproduce their stuff? Most of the stuff Adobe provides comes through tutorials, but they often only provide the example files and not the FLA because they figure you have to read the tutorial to use their stuff, rather than just stopping by and swiping the FLA without any work.

By the way, decompilers aren't guaranteed to work. Newer versions of Flash and Flex are making it more difficult to keep up, and honestly the people who program these programs are stuck by AS3 from what I've seen. Its semi-ethical to do this, depending on the situation the files were obtained and who provides them.
