Being my own domain registrar??

Hey I want to be able to actually register domains on my own server rather than use a service like GoDaddy.com or Register.com. Dose anyone know how I can do this, or possibly know of a place that can tell me how to do this?

You got a few grand to spend a each year for a licence? You need a licence from nominet for high level tlds, (com,net,org) and then licences for other tld's from other places

What is wrong with paying what is it? 8 bucks a year for a domain? You can bet if there was a way to do it for free, loads of people would be.
