I assume that font size makes that paragraph page break. Correct?

Now, if that is so: You have only that content on the page. One single paragraph, the browser HAS to page break somewhere, and because of the way your page is built it can only place the page break at one place, which is inside the paragraph. However, if you split that up into several paragraphs, you should find it page breaking in between them instead of in the middle of them.

Note that the property value is avoid and not never-ever-break. As liorean said, the browser has to break somewhere.
