Please help me with OS's

I installed windows 98 first, then I installed windows XP, then I edited the options file so it would give me a choice.
When I choose win98 it says: Hard Disk config error (some thing like that).
There is one partition on the C drive and it is fat32, and win98 is installed under: WINDOWS, and winXP is under: WINDOWXP
