Is there anyway i could speed up my usb cable modem

e.g. updating drivers ect...

Changing drivers will not really speed it up.

Is the speed really slow?

Things that can affect the speed that you can change would be the length of the cable going to your cable modem. How long is that cable? The shorter the length of the cable the better as it will lessen the noise in the line giving a stronger signal. Also if possible you should only have just the cable modem on that one cable. Using a splitter can degrade the signal. Many cable modems offer a cat5 cable connection to your computer through a NIC (Network Interface Card). I may be wrong but that is probably faster than connecting it via USB. NIC's are cheap. You can pick one up for like $14-$20USD.

there are so called optimisars out there that tweak settings such as packet size i think.

goto www.speedguide.net... They have some settings and such you can change on your pc to take advantage of a broadband connection...
