I've been doing the php thing for a little over 3 years now. The only thing I can say, is that PHP KICKS BOOTAY.
We used ColdFusion at my former employer's......it CONSTANTLY crashed. We were forever rebooting the server and/or restarting the service.
I could be wrong, but I think the PHP community is quite a bit larger. Many don't have a clue what ColdFusion is, but jump in on PHP convos. The support and documentation is superb. It just makes sense. Especially with the next version of PHP to be released. Full OO coding....I'll bet you'll eat that up, especially coming from ASP (depending on ur development language. I'm assuming you used VBScript...which has *VERY* limited object support).
PHP seems to flow well with other comparable languages. It's so similar to c++/java that it just makes sense to use it, especially if you're already familiar with the other languages.
Also, I don't see coldfusion going anywhere. PHP is in heavy development, and it won't die. ColdFusion support/development is sporadic at best.
print "PHP ROX!";

ColdFusion has required rewriting all the pages when the product was updated three times since it's original release. In other words they language has been changed enough that you had to go back and redo it or not upgrade it.
How'w that for incentive to learn PHP instead? :)
