I've seen a couple of other forum sites where there is one forum for the explicit purpose of hiring and getting hired. Since this is an extremely web-centric site, perhaps something like this could be appropriate?

This will allow those occasional "Looking for a programmer $$$" posts to have a home, and may allow those of us who are looking for paid projects to have a place to get work.

What do you guys think?

Those types of posts are allowed and most of the time fall under the GWB forum. I don't know if there would be enough usage to make a forum for it. Perhaps a sub-forum of GWB or something however the traffic problem is still an issue but it is, as always, up to George.

I would think that (A) Since it could also include people from the server-side forums, it might be better to have it's own link on the main page, and (B) I've been on this board for quite a while now, and never knew posts like that were even remotely allowed. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that. (C) It might very well be a good thing for this board. I don't know that it would attract any more traffic than CF already gets, though.

I would almost start to believe that there are two kinds of people over here. As a server side person i also lurk around amongst the clientside people just to keep an eye on things and ...

Ohw. But i did. In fact thats how i made my first million ('euro' that is) You see, some of us serversidees do snoop around there to snatch away the occasional free lunch --> they do exist and get past the mods, in fact ... http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27391&highlight=time they are more a less well received (this is not a unique case) (

It's up to WA, but, i personally like sites that keep a specific focus. To me CF is a place where coders can help eachother out, and not a place where coders are recruited.
What sort of good would come out of it?

Note : Regardless off the above --> anyone who has money to spend is free to PM me. I'll do even clientside scriting if it pays well enough !

The forums I moderate on has a whole section devoted to jobs. Yes the site is more of a professional board where the average age is well higher then the average age here.

I find that there are plenty of job postings in there, BUT you need to make STRICT rules for posting.

You need to have rules on wages, location, onsite - off site work, temp-perm. etc....

The thing you need to watch out for is Lazy Boy Sam trying to get people to code their end of year projects. Heck that is what Rent-A-Coder is for.

My 2 Cents

I think that the occasional job offer is natural in this environment but I don't think it should necessarily be promoted - let's keep focus.

how about we enlarge the idea to a "projects" forum. for people looking for coders to help them or do the whole lot for them ($ or no $)? I'm shure it would be more ued and useful than just a jobs forum. no?

my 2 cents

The idea is not bad, however the main problem with such a forum is that code would not be shown. Threads would mainly be like "can you do that? if yes then PM me!!!". Like many people I am learning a lot by reading other's threads and the problems they encounter. But that might certainly be usefull to some people... and unfortunatly not usefull at all to many others.

<edit>
George talked a little about it in that thread: http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29698.

wheres the problem in people asking for help? if the project is simple enogh to be posted i'm shure the coder consulted would peobably send them to hotscripts. i'm not shuer i see your point jeskel

So I'd make it a Jobs forum, not a Projects forum.

And yes, good idea
