I tried to get started in the business, and in so doing created about a dozen sample websites. Take a look at www.tonydavis.biz. Maybe some of them might give you a couple of ideas.

Hop on over to designsxchange.com and check out the
downloads. There's all kinds of free image scrollers, etc.

I may be late with this reply, however I have done a couple of graphically intense web sites which you may want to review... keep in mind that I create most of my designs first in Photoshop then optimize them in ImageReady so that I can then create templates in Dreamweaver...

I am first a graphic designer, but about 9 years ago a client asked if I could design a web site for them.... without thinking about it I said YES! (then I worry about how to do it)

My point is if I look at sites I did way back then, I stick my index finger back as far as I can in my throat. I looked at lots of sites and I kept trying to get "close" to how they looked and it was difficult.. but like everything else, eventually you will get the hang of it.... starting with photoshop is a great way to go because you work with layers.

It's kinda like mathematics and programming... you have to practice! Keep it up and perservere with time and you will enhance your creative/graphical skills. It does take time unfortunately.

and my site (http://www.shadowstorm.net/) (shameless plug, oohay!)

If you are intentionally going to go graphics intense, then be mindful and smart about what you are doing, don't make something into a graphic when it can instead be a 1x1 transparent pic, don't have useless images (a 200x120 white only image is not required for a graphic intense site, yet people still stick white images in there).

think about what your site is about, think of objects that are assciated with the subject andhow you could implant them on a design (start out basic, top logo with left side menu for example) think about the structure of the page and how to make it clear
