hi there

i have just changed from win2000 IIS5 to Win2003 IIS6 and i am having problems with the site crashing for no reason. it doesn't stop the iis just seems to stop the working.

I have had to add the cdonts.dll in as this was not their as standard on iis6 and i have everything else working fine it just is this one site that is folding on me every couple of hours.

does any one know of any other dll's that i might to add or if their are flaws in IIS6 that mean asp code that runs perfectly in iss5 should keep crashing.

I have tried all sorts. the code is a simple downloaded-able shop with it's own database that runs perfectly for a couple of hours then stops and then i have to restart all the services to get it to work again.

any ideas????

cheers

If you performed an upgrade of Win2K --> 2K3 then that's what your problem is. Always, always, always, ALWAYS backup all your data, wipe the system partition, and install a new OS from scratch.

If that's what you did and you're still having problems with your legitimate (and horrifically expensive) copy of 2K3, then surely you should consult Microsoft?

;)

Incidentally, IIS6 is completely backwards-compatible with IIS5. The CDONTS/CDOSYS differences are OS-related, not IIS.

Actually the recommendation I saw for how to cleanly convert from W2K with IIS 5.0 to W2003 with IIS 6.0 recommended you perform the upgrade, use W2003's tools to backup and save the IIS configuration, install W2003 clean and then restore the saved IIS configuration. The recommendation also wants you to perform as much of that as possible on a different system so you can maximize your ability to return to the previous configuration if something goes wrong.

That makes sense for a server with a complicated IIS setup, but since most servers (rightly or wrongly) have most settings left as default, you could do a clean install on most servers, perform some minimal tweaking and be up and running pretty sharpish.

Mostly. :p ;)
