This has been on my mind for some time now. I was wondering how sites especially ones like vault.com where 100's of things are constantly updated everyday, How do people start a site like that?

1) where do they get the help to maintain their site, especially when it is just etting started?
2) where do they get the large amounts of information to keep their site updated?
3) How much $ does it take to maintain large sites like say..yahoo, or ebay?...I'm just courious :)

----------------------------

I'm interested in learning about yahoo, but every time I type the words "yahoo" in a browser, it takes me to the site, not actually what I'm looking for

Alot of man/woman hours, hard work and knowledge is a good way to get started

2) where do they get the large amounts of information to keep their site updated?
Large sites will have partnerships with other companies that provide this information, or they hire staff to find the information out.

3) How much $ does it take to maintain large sites like say..yahoo, or ebay?
As these are multimillion (or billion) dollar companies, I'd guess it costs alot more than I can imagine to maintain them.

There's also something called a Content Management System or CMS for short. This can be anything that produces content specific for a site, and it can be anything from a Perl scripted page to a full blown application that proudces XML which then uses XSLT to transform it into an RSS feed and XHTML which can be easily embedded into a page with yet another application.

Don't worry if you don't understand any of that, it's basically just a program that produces content quickly.
