Hi,

I have just setup SSL (using port 8443) and I am confused by the following items:

1.http://ip:8443/index.php
2.https://ip/index.php
3.https://ip:8443/index.php

What are the differences? And which one(s) will ensure the page is transmitted through a secure channel?

Thanks
Michael

1.http://ip:8443/index.php

This means that the browser will try to connect using standard unsecure protocols on port 8443.

2.https://ip/index.php

This means that the browser will try to connect using standard secure protocols on the default port (since none was specified) for that protocol which is 443.

3.https://ip:8443/index.php

This means that the browser will try to connect using standard secure protocols on port 8443.

Number 3 is the one you would want to use.

did you notice the difference between http and https? Only https will diplay the little lock since they are using standard secure protocols.
