Greetings! I'm currently using Cool Page to build my my website. I also stumbled upon a great site called dynamic drive. com which has code that gives gives your site a flashy look. Basically I just copy and paste their code into Cool Page, publish the page and the gimmicks work. Now, one of these gimmicks is a small picture of a smiley face that floats around your browser. Dynamic drive said I have to save the image of the smiley face and upload it to the site where the code is (without the image I just get a box with a cross in it floating about). My question is, how exactly to I upload the image to the site. I'm confused about FTP, as with Cool Page you simply hit the 'publish' button and it all automatically goes up and my attmepts at manually doing this with Command Prompt have failed. Is there an easy way to this with Cool Page? Any help would be more than appreciated and please explain things to me as if I'm the moron that I am.

Ok ... I can't really give you any help - cause I don't know what server you're using.

Here are a few pointers though...

If you're using a free server (such as Geocities, Angelfire, Bravenet, brinkster, etc.) then you can probably upload a file using their file manager utilities.. (can be found when you login on their websites)

If you're using an account given to you by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) then you should have some information for using an FTP client to upload files to your site.

Now .. if you need to use FTP - You'll need an FTP Client program. I'll recommend CuteFTP (www.cuteftp.com) or Bulletproof FTP (www.bulletproofftp.com)

Let me know if this is enough to get you started.

Hoping I could help with this I downloaded Cool Page to see how it worked. Since it appears to only work with free sites using FTP connect, I cannot be of much assistance (never used a free service). Sorry. :(

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I've heard that CuteFTP is spyware. Again, not sure about this though. Anyway, if you want a really nice FTP program, I would recommend WS_FTP. Download the 30 trial version and check it out for yourself. If you decide to do so and need help using the program, reply back here (after reading the help files of course) ;) .

All you need to do is this..

Download the smiley face and "saveAs" in a file you can remember.

Then upload it the same way you uploaded any other pictures on the site.

If "Cool Page" uploads the whole site all at once, make sure the "smiley face" is in the same directory (place) as the html files. When you hit "Publish" (or what ever) the site may ask if you want to "overwrite these files", hit "OK" or "Yes" and coolpage should upload the new information, including the smiley face.

It is posible that the image is stored in the wrong place, if you are getting the box with an X in it, it means the server has the code, but can't find the image, OR you didn't upload the image in the first place, therefore see above.

I agree that you need to familerise yourself with FTP programs. I also use WS_FTP and find it the easiest to use.

Hope this helps

I recommend using FTP Manager Lite. It's an excellent modern free FTP and SFTP client software (http://www.deskshare.com/ftp-manager-free.aspx). The clean interface is super easy to use.
