Hey everybody!

I'm really a newbie in PHP. In fact, I know very little. So, therefor I'm asking for you advice: What would be the best way of creating a on-line newspaper? How could I implement PHP in this, so that organizing and linking different articles would be the easiest?

As I know very little about PHP, I wonder how, let's say a link like this works: http://www.domain.com/?id=home&lang=eng. Could I use something like this on a on-line newspaper, like http://www.newspaper.com/news/?year=2003&month=10&day=23&title=blablabla??? How would this then work?

I hope you can help me with this! Sorry if these questions are dumb, but I can't help it ;)

If I understood you correctly, what you need is a PHP Content Management system. Similar to a forum script, a CMS when installed allows you to easily update the entire site, add articles, news, post comments etc. Personally I've tested out the following two CMS scripts, which are both quite good:

http://www.moveabletype.org
http://www.pmachine.com

But there are many others: http://www.needscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Content_Management/index.html

Good luck.

Hi again!

First of all, thanks WA for your reply. I think I didn't explain what I want that clearly, therefor I wish to accomplish a better description what I'm trying to accomplish:

Okay, I have made a website. I would like it to be as a template, where everything except for parts that I choose, stays the same, no matter where on the site you are. So, in other words, I'd like some parts of the website to be "imported" from external files, similar to SSI.

BUT (here's my problem), I'd like the actual content area to display articles from some kind of a database, so that it's easier to fetch the information. So, when you click on a link to an article, it would say something like http://www.domain.com/?day=031015&article=1.

I hope you understand what I mean. Plus, it would be a nice bonus if there would be some kind of feature where users would be able to post their own comments on the articles.

So, I would appreciate it if someone could help me? Maybe show me some examples how this could be done? Thanks!

I think WA understood you just fine. It seems to us that you are looking for software that uses a template, allows you to post news articles, allows users to comment on those articles. Software that allows you to do such things are typically called Content Management Systems (CMS). WA posted links to two that he knows of. Other popular ones in the past were PHPNuke and PostNuke. www.phpnuke.org www.postnuke.org This type of software is typically for running a site where you want to provide news articles and various other features.
