Swapping slideshows on mouseover

I want to alternate two slide shows, based on mouseover, both located at the same place on the browser display (let's say centered). I only need it to work in IE. So I imagine using div's with style alternating between hidden and visible on mouseover. But before I invest a bunch of time in this does anyone know will this work if they are both in the same location and is this the right approach?

Why not just use the z-index. one at 10 the other at 20. Then on mouseover you just swap the z-index values and change which one is on top.
