Hello,

This example (http://htmlfive.appspot.com/static/whereami.html) will find your approximate location with your consent. I need to know how to do something similar to find their postal code without needing to request any permissions.

Why do you need to know their postal code?

The website graphics will display differently depending on the users location.
To show their weather forecast.
To determine how many miles away from the business location the person is.
Personalize the information to make a better user experience.

What is the best option for myself to find their postal code?

Note: This is only needed for UK users only.

Best Regards,
Tim

Without requiring permission..?! The users' browser will (should!) require permission to supply geo-data and I trust that this will continue to be the case.

there are geo-ip lookup databases out there which will find a rough location based on the IP address (which you get without asking) ....
but e.g. I am in Perth WA and sometimes I appear to be in Alice Spings if you believe the ip-lookup , I don't cos its cloudy today and Alice Springs is scorching all year round + not a dingo in sight!
